Monday, November 22, 2010

You choose the title tonight.

I feel like a slacker at this blogging thing.
But when I blog I feel like a slacker at this homework thing.
One more day. Then it's break.
Then we party it up with Josh. And Courtney. And Tiffani. And Beau. But not Chris, because he's not coming. And whoever else decides to come back to my dear home!

I think last year I took advantage of a lot. Not that I
meant to. But really, I had all these beautiful friends, things going on every weekend and almost every night. Even "homework" groups, where we never actually did homework. I guess I never met the reality of everyone leaving, and moving on with life. So when it actually came...
Not EVERYONE left. But quite a few did.
The few that usually got things going on during my friday and saturday nights.

To all of you who are now up in northern land, and on missions, and doing such terrifical things, I love you. I miss you, a lot. I can't wait to see your shining faces again. Promise me you won't leave without me seeing you.
Otherwise I will cry.
Really though.

In other news. My recent infatuations are:
-Dr. Seuss books (And for your information, I think it should be spelled Suess. With all due respect of course.)
-People who can get their point across without smiley faces, etc. in a text. (Not that they're bad. Just something refreshing is all.)
-Thrift Stores
-Consignment Shops
-Window Shopping
-Birds
-Stats on my blog (people in Luxembourg read, or at least look, at this page! Cool, right? I think so.)
-Pumpkin things
-A book I found. Perhaps you've heard of it? "The Day Jimmy's Boa Ate the Wash"
-Feathers in my hair
-Jonsi (more of it)
-Performance Poetry (which you already knew)
-Long socks
-Hot Cocoa (this always happens this time of year)
-Ramona (she's soo great!)
-Purposefully incorrect Grammar
-Rainy day walks
Okay. So many of these aren't "recent". But they have come up within the last week.

Tonight I'm mopey.

I hate writing papers.
Bleh.

I make a difference. What about you?

This has become a recent hobby of mine. It's addicting once you start cruising around on YouTube.

Some other good things to look up:
Bowery Poetry Club. Where some of Mr. Mali's readings take place.
Urban Poetry Slam Club. A gold mine of Slam Poetry!
Indiefeed Performance Poetry. An abundance wealth of poetry information!

What can I say? I'm on some kind of kick lately! And so I have been even more deeply exploring this spectacular blog of my dear sister-friend.
Go here.
It is where I have found many gems and mind opening wonders.

Here are some of my favorite Performance Poetry readings (aka: Poetry Slams).

I do apologize for the brief profanity in this next clip. However, the message is what lead me onto this addiction of performance poetry.

Jared Singer is another amazing one. Redheaded Women with Tattoos.

Testimony

Today was Fast Sunday. Which meant Testimony Meeting - this meeting terrifies me every month. I'm always afraid to stumble over my words, say something embarrassing over the fact of being nervous. I don't do good with crowds. But I did get up in Relief Society. And I wrote a letter to a dear friend with my testimony. And now, I'm going to share it with you. It's simple, but it's real.

I know this Church is true. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I think all other churches across the whole world have some truth, but this one has ALL of it! I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet along with those that followed him, and that our modern prophet today, Thomas S. Monson, is foreordained and called to guide us in these latter days in preparation for Christ's second coming to the earth. I love our Savior Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father, and I know that they love all of us and are aware of what we are going through each day, and they send the Holy Ghost to help comfort and guide us when we are worthy for it. I know this because I feel Their love each day, and I feel the warmth of the Holy Ghost constantly surrounding me. I know the Book of Mormon to be true. The principles it teaches, the testimonies it bears, and the counsel it gives are pure and candor. I know that Jesus came down to earth to Atone for our sins, that we may return to our Father in Heaven and live with Him again. I am so grateful for this above everything else, for everything I learn centers around this great event. This event of my big brother coming down to suffer all the negative aspects that I deal with in life so that He can help me. So that He can help me be clean, and be a better person, and go back to live with Him and God our Father.

This is my Testimony.

Amen.

Weekends are fun

I should really post pictures of my weekend.
But that would mean to download them from my camera, and I already feel guilty blogging instead of homeworking.

Thursday (not really the weekend, but that's the night it starts for me.)
JONSI! (with accompaniment of Michael, Maria, and Courtney.)
He is amazing. Can I just say that I love him? okay, I will.
I love Jonsi. Truly and forever. Too bad he's homosexual.
But, one of the guitarist is attractive (and hopefully not homosexual) - who looked at me! Okay that sounds way dumb. But it's true! Total eye contact and smile!
I haven't told anyone this. And I feel ridiculously girly right now. Enjoy my embarrassing disclosure to the internet.

Friday
I got home from Las Vegas - would have stayed if my best friend didn't frolic off to six flags with her brother and my cousin. And if I had money to go with them.
Yep. Would have stayed.
Friday was chilax. I got a little homework done. Finally watched the rifftracks of Twilight. May I note that there is no other way to watch those movies?
Absolutely no other way.

Saturday
All sports.
7AM-12PM: Border League Volleyball
12PM-4PM: DSC Football (and we won)
4PM-11:30PM: More Border League Volleyball
I learned that I'm not a big enough fan of sports to have an all day thing of it. Sometimes I like sports for the social atmosphere. Just not that day.
I didn't get any homework done.
Parents yelled at me because their daughters have low self esteem that wholly depends on if they win or lose this 7th grade Silver Bracket Border League Tournament. Did I mention - I don't care that you have bad parenting skills, and it's Border League?
Seriously. I was in a bad mood Saturday.
Also, don't ever sit by the scoring table.
And I got sick.
Joy.

Sunday
I like Sundays. A lot. They're actually my favorite day of the week.
I had meetings. I got a nap. Home Teachers are great - they watch Fantastic Mr. Fox with you and pull a great lesson from it!
Fantastic Mr. Fox = Mr. Fox isn't really happy with his life, even though he has a great family, a good job, a nice house, and food on the table. But he's not satisfied, and he doesn't realize these blessings, so he goes to other means to find them. Moral- realize the blessings that we do have, and be grateful.
Such good.
And, brothers have birthdays. And my friend Jeremy came to visit me and stayed a little bit for the party until he had to depart. Which was really nice.
I love my brothers. They are officially 28-years-old. They have a great sense of humor, and still talk about health reforms, the philosophy of voting, economics, teach me things I don't know, and don't even notice when I give them a hug to leave for a meeting and tell them happy birthday.
My family warms my heart. And I get to see them again this week - we're carving pumpkins!
